The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety is inviting applications from unemployed young South Africans to participate in its Learner Traffic Officer Learnership Programme 2026. A total of 204 learnership positions are available for candidates who are passionate about road safety, law enforcement and public service.
This fully structured 12-month training programme prepares successful applicants to become qualified Traffic Officers through a combination of classroom learning, practical exercises and intensive physical training at the Department’s Traffic College.

About the Learnership
The Learner Traffic Officer Learnership is designed to equip unemployed youth with the knowledge, practical skills and professional competencies required to enforce road traffic legislation, improve road safety and serve communities throughout Limpopo Province.
During the programme, learners will receive extensive theoretical and practical training in traffic law enforcement while earning an annual stipend.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must:
- Be South African citizens.
- Be between 18 and 35 years of age.
- Possess a Grade 12 (Matric) or NQF Level 4 qualification recognised by SAQA.
- Hold a valid South African driver’s licence.
- Have no criminal record.
- Have no visible tattoos.
- Be medically, mentally and physically fit.
- Not have been declared unfit to possess a firearm under the Firearms Control Act or any applicable legislation.
- Be willing to undergo residential training at the Traffic College.
Key Responsibilities After Qualification
Qualified Traffic Officers may perform duties such as:
- Enforcing road traffic legislation.
