Minimum Requirements

To qualify, applicants must possess:

  • NQF Level 1 qualification, ABET Level 4 certificate, or an equivalent qualification.
  • No previous work experience is required.
  • Ability to read and write.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Willingness to perform physically demanding outdoor work.
  • Willingness to travel throughout Gauteng and stay near construction sites when required.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidates will assist in maintaining and improving Gauteng’s provincial road network by performing duties such as:

  • Road construction and maintenance.
  • Repairing potholes and damaged road surfaces.
  • Crack sealing and road resurfacing.
  • Re-gravelling gravel roads.
  • Construction and maintenance of road shoulders.
  • Building and repairing culverts, drainage systems and stormwater infrastructure.
  • Cleaning road reserves, sidewalks, drainage channels and rest areas.
  • Installing, replacing and repairing road signs.
  • Maintaining road markings, delineators and road furniture.
  • Repairing and maintaining guardrails, fencing and gabion structures.
  • Assisting with pipe-laying and civil engineering maintenance works.
  • Operating hand tools and small construction equipment safely.
  • Cleaning, maintaining and safeguarding departmental tools and equipment.
  • Reporting damaged tools and equipment.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Following Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
  • Assisting with traffic accommodation during road maintenance projects.
  • Performing any additional duties assigned by supervisors.
