Salary Package
- CB1-1: R212 358 per annum (± R17 697 per month)
- CB1-2: R257 895 per annum (± R21 491 per month)

Job Purpose
Security Officers are responsible for maintaining safety, security, and order within correctional centres. The role involves supervising offenders, enforcing security procedures, protecting state property, and ensuring the safety of inmates, staff, and visitors. Officers are expected to uphold human rights, ethical conduct, and departmental policies while contributing to offender rehabilitation.
Appointments may be made at CB1-1, CB1-2, or CB1-3 level depending on qualifications and years of relevant experience.
Minimum Requirements
- Matric / Grade 12 qualification
- Successful completion of Correctional Science Learnership, Basic Training, or Induction Training Course (ITC)
- CB1-1: No experience required
- CB1-2: Minimum 10 years’ experience at CB1-1 level
- CB1-3: Minimum 10 years’ experience at CB1-2 level
- Computer literacy
- Firearm competency
- Knowledge of correctional legislation, policies, and procedures
- Knowledge of Minimum Security Standards
- Good communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills
Key Responsibilities
- Perform access control at correctional centres and secured areas
- Supervise movement of inmates internally and externally
- Guard inmates at centres and during placement at external institutions
- Conduct routine physical security inspections
- Manage stores and security equipment
- Operate and monitor security control rooms
- Ensure safe custody, care, and control of offenders
- Maintain a secure, safe, and humane detention environment
