Purpose of the Position

The Laboratory Clerk is responsible for ensuring laboratory information is captured accurately, laboratory records are properly maintained, reports are generated on time, and quality management systems are followed. The position supports laboratory personnel by providing administrative services that contribute to efficient laboratory operations and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Capture laboratory results accurately into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
  • Verify captured data for completeness and accuracy.
  • Follow up on outstanding laboratory queries.
  • Escalate issues involving non-conforming material to relevant departments.
  • Prepare daily laboratory production reports.
  • Generate monthly quality control reports.
  • Produce reports required for accounting and operational purposes.
  • Ensure compliance with Glencore policies and laboratory procedures.
  • Maintain confidential laboratory documentation.
  • Organise and maintain filing systems for laboratory records.
  • Archive laboratory documents according to company requirements.
  • Support laboratory audits by ensuring records are readily available.
  • Perform general office administration duties.
  • Assist laboratory personnel with administrative requests.
  • Maintain high standards of data integrity.
  • Promote safe working practices in accordance with HSEC requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should possess:

  • Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate (NQF Level 4).
  • National Diploma in Analytical Chemistry (advantageous).
  • At least 2 years of laboratory administration experience within a ferrochrome smelter environment.
  • Knowledge of laboratory quality management systems.
  • Good understanding of SANAS ISO/IEC 17025:2017 requirements.
  • Computer literacy in:
    • Microsoft Office
    • SAP
    • LIMS
    • MES
  • Knowledge of Health, Safety, Environment and Community (HSEC) systems.
