Job Purpose

The purpose of this position is to perform quality control inspections and laboratory analysis on incoming raw materials, products during manufacturing, and finished products. The Quality Controller ensures that all analytical results are accurately recorded, non-conforming products are identified and reported promptly, and laboratory activities comply with quality management systems, food safety standards, and health and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Perform laboratory testing on incoming raw materials.
Conduct quality inspections on in-process production samples.
Analyse finished products to ensure compliance with product specifications.
Carry out HACCP monitoring and verification activities.
Perform Near Infrared (NIR), wet chemistry, and microbial analyses.
Accurately capture and maintain laboratory analytical data.
Label, identify, and safely store laboratory samples.
Collect and dispatch scheduled samples to accredited external laboratories.
Investigate product deviations and report non-conforming analytical results.
Support corrective and preventive actions to improve product quality.
Monitor compliance with food safety and quality assurance procedures.
Ensure laboratory equipment and work areas remain clean and operational.
Maintain laboratory documentation and testing records.
Follow Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) regulations at all times.
Work closely with production personnel to maintain consistent product quality.

Minimum Requirements

Grade 12 (Matric).
Mathematics and Physical Science are compulsory subjects.
Minimum of 1 year experience in a milling, food manufacturing, processing, or production environment.
Computer literacy.
Ability to work shifts when required.

Advantageous Qualifications

Candidates with any of the following may have an added advantage:

Food Technology qualification.
Quality Management or Quality Assurance training.
Laboratory experience.
HACCP certification.
Knowledge of ISO food safety systems.
Experience using laboratory testing equipment.
