Job Purpose

The Confirmations Clerk plays an important role in protecting the hospital’s revenue by ensuring that patient admissions, procedures, and treatments receive the correct medical aid authorisations and re-authorisations before services are provided.

The successful candidate will work closely with doctors, nursing staff, case managers, patients, and medical aid funders to ensure authorisations are processed accurately and on time.


Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Obtaining medical aid authorisations for patient admissions and procedures.
  • Processing re-authorisations when patients require extended treatment.
  • Capturing and updating patient information accurately.
  • Communicating with medical schemes regarding authorisation approvals.
  • Liaising with doctors, nursing staff, patients, and external stakeholders.
  • Identifying patients who may present financial risks.
  • Escalating high-risk cases to the appropriate departments.
  • Applying Level 2 Clinical Coding guidelines correctly.
  • Ensuring compliance with hospital procedures and funder contracts.
  • Maintaining accurate electronic patient records.
  • Ensuring all authorisations are completed before patient discharge where required.
  • Supporting efficient patient administration processes.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of patient information.
  • Providing professional customer service to patients and healthcare providers.

Minimum Requirements

Essential Education
