About the Job
Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa is looking for a Utilities Operator: Boiler to join its manufacturing operations in Midrand, Gauteng. The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation, monitoring and basic maintenance of industrial steam boilers and related utility systems.
The role is suited to an experienced boiler operator with a valid minimum Second Class Boiler Operator Certificate, strong knowledge of boiler safety procedures and experience working with high-pressure steam systems in a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate and monitor steam boilers to maintain the required pressure and temperature levels.
- Perform safe boiler pre-start, start-up, normal operation and shutdown procedures.
- Adjust fuel, air and water feed controls to support efficient combustion and steam production.
- Conduct routine boiler house inspections and safety checks.
- Monitor boiler instrumentation, control panels and safety devices.
- Record steam pressure, water levels, fuel consumption and other operating parameters accurately.
- Identify operational abnormalities and report faults promptly.
- Carry out first-line maintenance and assist artisans with planned maintenance and shutdown activities.
- Monitor fuel and water consumption and report unusual or excessive usage.
- Maintain appropriate boiler water treatment parameters.
- Follow the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Pressure Equipment Regulations and company safety procedures.
- Support statutory inspections and maintain required boiler certificates and documentation.
- Maintain accurate logbooks and compliance records.
- Support other utilities operations, such as compressors and refrigeration, when required and under supervision.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organised boiler house and ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric with Mathematics and Science.
- Valid Boiler Operator Certificate – Minimum Second Class, issued by an accredited institution.
- 2–3 years’ experience operating industrial steam boilers in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience with boiler water treatment practices.
- Knowledge of high-pressure steam systems and operational safety procedures.
- Experience in FMCG, beverage or food manufacturing will be an advantage.
- Relevant trade certificate, such as Fitter or Millwright, will be advantageous.
- Basic computer literacy; MS Excel experience for logging and reporting is beneficial.
Key Skills and Knowledge

- Operation of coal, oil or gas-fired boilers and related equipment.
- Boiler performance monitoring and interpretation of control readings.
- Boiler water chemistry and treatment.
- Mechanical systems, including pumps, valves and gauges.
- Boiler logbooks and compliance documentation.
- Basic troubleshooting and first-line maintenance.
