Purpose of the Position

The Unit Administrative Assistant provides efficient administrative and reception support within the nursing unit. The successful candidate will assist healthcare professionals with administrative processes while ensuring patients and visitors receive professional and friendly service.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

The successful applicant will:

  • Perform daily administrative and clerical duties.
  • Register and update patient information accurately.
  • Assist with patient admissions, transfers and discharge administration.
  • Maintain patient records and filing systems.
  • Capture and update data on hospital systems.
  • Answer telephone calls and direct enquiries professionally.
  • Welcome patients, visitors and healthcare professionals.
  • Assist with scheduling and coordinating administrative activities.
  • Control and monitor pharmaceutical stock according to hospital procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
  • Handle patient compliments and complaints professionally.
  • Support nursing staff with administrative requirements.
  • Ensure documentation complies with Mediclinic policies and procedures.

Minimum Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Computer literacy (Computer Studies as a school subject or a recognised Computer Literacy Certificate).

Advantageous Qualifications

Candidates with any of the following will have an added advantage:

  • Reception training.
  • Secretarial qualification.
  • Personal Assistant qualification.
  • Office Administration qualification.

Experience

  • Minimum Experience: None required.
  • Preferred Experience: Previous administrative experience in a hospital, clinic, medical practice or healthcare environment.
