Job Overview

Momentum Health is looking for an experienced and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to support its Finance Department. This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy working with financial data, preparing management reports, maintaining accurate accounting records, and ensuring compliance with financial regulations.

The successful candidate will work closely with the Financial Manager and finance team to maintain accurate financial information, assist with month-end and year-end reporting, perform reconciliations, support audits, and help ensure the organisation’s financial records meet statutory and internal reporting requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • Grade 12 (Matric)
  • Bachelor of Commerce (BCom) majoring in Accounting or currently studying towards a National Accounting Diploma (advantageous)
  • 2–3 years’ relevant accounting experience
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills (advantageous)
  • Experience performing daily, weekly, and monthly accounting processes
  • Previous experience working with internal or external auditors will be beneficial
  • Strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office applications

Key Responsibilities

The Assistant Accountant will:

  • Assist the Financial Manager with finance operations
  • Record, reconcile, and maintain general ledger accounts
  • Process financial journals accurately
  • Prepare monthly management accounts
  • Review balance sheet reconciliations
  • Investigate and clear unreconciled financial items
  • Process supplier and vendor information
  • Verify invoices and payment information
  • Calculate monthly third-party capitation fees
  • Maintain fixed asset registers
  • Ensure financial records comply with accounting standards
  • Assist with budgeting and financial planning
  • Prepare annual financial statements
  • Support internal and external audit processes
  • Resolve audit queries within required deadlines
  • Complete monthly, quarterly, and annual statutory submissions
  • Maintain accurate financial filing and documentation
  • Produce reports for management and audit committees
  • Support continuous improvement within the finance department

Client and Stakeholder Responsibilities
