Eskom is offering an excellent opportunity for unemployed South African youth to gain valuable workplace experience through the Youth Employment Service (YES) Programme. The programme is aimed at helping young people build practical skills, improve their employability, and prepare for long-term careers in South Africa’s energy industry.

Successful applicants will be placed at Grootvlei Power Station in Mpumalanga on a 12-month fixed-term contract, where they will receive hands-on workplace exposure in one of the country’s largest electricity utilities.

About the YES Programme

The Youth Employment Service (YES) is a national initiative launched by the Presidency in partnership with the private sector to combat youth unemployment. The programme provides unemployed young South Africans with meaningful work experience, helping them gain practical skills, workplace exposure, and professional development.

Participants work alongside experienced professionals while developing transferable skills that improve future employment opportunities.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must:

  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Be between 18 and 34 years old.
  • Have Grade 12 (Matric) or an equivalent qualification.
  • Be currently unemployed.
  • Not be studying full-time during the programme.
  • Not have participated in the YES Programme previously.
  • Not have been permanently employed by one employer for more than one continuous year.
