Job Purpose
Tiger Brands is seeking a dedicated and technically minded Artisan Assistant to support qualified artisans with the maintenance, repair, and inspection of manufacturing equipment. The successful candidate will help ensure production machinery operates efficiently while maintaining high safety and quality standards.
This opportunity is ideal for recent matriculants with technical knowledge, TVET graduates, or individuals looking to build a long-term career in engineering and manufacturing.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist artisans with preventative and corrective maintenance.
- Inspect machinery and equipment for faults and wear.
- Assemble mechanical and electrical components under supervision.
- Clean machinery, tools, and engineering workshops.
- Maintain housekeeping standards in maintenance areas.
- Work safely on ladders and scaffolding when required.
- Report unsafe conditions and equipment failures immediately.
- Create, update, and close maintenance job cards using the Maintenance Management System (DMS).
- Perform basic building and facility maintenance.
- Assist with breakdown repairs to minimise production downtime.
- Participate in continuous improvement and maintenance excellence programmes (MECP).
- Comply with all Occupational Health and Safety regulations.
- Carry out any additional duties assigned by the Maintenance Manager, Planner, Coordinator, or Artisan.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric).
- Electrical or Mechanical background will be an advantage.
- Technical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding abilities.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
- Willingness to work shifts, weekends, and overtime when required.
- Basic computer literacy.
- Knowledge of Maintenance Management Systems (DMS) is advantageous.
