Job Overview

Bidvest Facilities Management is seeking a Generator Technician to support telecommunications operations in Polokwane. The successful candidate will be responsible for the deployment, recovery, refueling, inspection, and maintenance of mobile and static generators, ensuring reliable power supply across GSM network sites.

Key Responsibilities

  • Refuel static and mobile generators according to operational requirements.
  • Deploy and recover mobile generator units.
  • Perform basic fault finding and troubleshooting on-site.
  • Conduct weekly generator inspections.
  • Complete pre-deployment and post-deployment inspections.
  • Maintain accurate generator deployment and usage records.
  • Ensure all company equipment and assets remain clean and serviceable.
  • Identify and report health, safety, quality, and operational risks.
  • Adhere to company safety procedures and industry standards.
  • Travel to various regions when required.
  • Participate in standby schedules as assigned by management.
  • Utilize handheld devices and reporting tools according to project requirements.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / Matric Certificate.
  • Valid Code 14 / EB Driver’s License.
  • 1–2 years telecommunications experience on GSM sites.
  • Understanding of Health and Safety regulations.
  • Basic mechanical and maintenance knowledge.
  • Ability to perform basic generator fault finding.
  • Good communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Willingness to travel and work in different regions.

Advantageous Qualifications & Skills

  • Mechanical Trade Test.
  • 4×4 and Advanced Driving certification.
  • Working on Heights (WOH) certification.
  • Working on Heights Rescue certification.
  • First Aid Level 1.
  • Basic Fire Fighting certification.
  • SAP Plant Maintenance Module knowledge.
  • Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, and Android device proficiency.
