Eskom is inviting qualified and experienced candidates to apply for four permanent Senior Plant Operator positions at Camden Power Station in Ermelo. This role offers an opportunity to work in one of South Africa’s largest electricity generation organisations, helping ensure the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of fossil-fuel power plant equipment while contributing to the country’s energy security.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct routine inspections and operational checks on plant equipment.
  • Monitor boilers, turbines, generators, pumps, valves, and auxiliary systems.
  • Prepare plant and equipment for start-up, shutdown, maintenance, and return to service.
  • Operate plant safely according to Eskom operating procedures and safety regulations.
  • Detect, report, and assist in resolving plant defects and abnormal operating conditions.
  • Complete operating logs, reports, and shift documentation accurately.
  • Support maintenance teams during planned outages and emergency work.
  • Participate in emergency response activities as part of the station’s fire and rescue team.
  • Maintain high housekeeping and environmental standards.
  • Ensure compliance with Eskom’s operational, health, safety, and environmental policies.

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications

  • Grade 12/N3 with Mathematics and Physical Science.
  • NQF Level 4 National Certificate in Fossil Power Plant.

Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Learner Plant Operator or Plant Operator in a power generation environment.

Required Skills and Competencies

  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Plant defect identification and report-writing skills.
  • Firefighting knowledge and emergency response skills.
  • Good problem-solving and analytical ability.
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to operational issues.
  • High attention to detail and commitment to safe work practices.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends, public holidays, and overtime when required.
