What You’ll Do

As a Process Controller Filtration, you will help ensure that treated water meets the required quality standards by monitoring and operating filtration and chlorine treatment systems.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control filtration plant performance.
  • Operate filtration systems according to operational procedures.
  • Monitor filtration processes using the SCADA system.
  • Perform manual and SCADA-controlled filter backwashing.
  • Sterilise filters for maintenance and repairs.
  • Operate chlorine plants, including evaporators, chlorinators, injectors and compressors.
  • Monitor chlorine plant safety and operational compliance.
  • Load and offload chlorine cylinders.
  • Report unsafe working conditions and chemical spills.
  • Maintain high housekeeping and safety standards.

Minimum Requirements

To qualify, you should have:

  • Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate), N3 or NQF Level 4 in Water and Wastewater Treatment.
  • National Diploma in Water or an equivalent qualification (advantageous).
  • Class IV Process Controller classification (advantageous).
  • At least 2 years of water treatment plant experience.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Valid South African driver’s licence.
  • Ability to pass Rand Water’s K53 driving assessment.

Required Knowledge

  • Basic mathematics.
  • Water treatment processes.
  • Basic engineering principles (flow and pressure).
  • SCADA system operations.
