ABOUT THE FINANCIAL ASSISTANT ROLE
PG Group is seeking a capable and detail-oriented Financial Assistant to support the finance function at its Alrode, Alberton operation.
The successful candidate will play an important role in maintaining accurate financial information, supporting financial reporting, monitoring debtors and creditors, reviewing expenses, and ensuring that financial documentation and processes are completed accurately and on time.
The role requires someone who is analytical, organised, systematic, detail-conscious, and comfortable working with financial data and accounting systems.
The Financial Assistant will also contribute to sound business decision-making by identifying financial concerns and ensuring that transactions and expenses are correctly recorded and allocated.
MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION
The primary purpose of the role is to:
- Generate, check, report, and maintain accurate and timely financial information.
- Support the business with reliable financial documentation.
- Assist management and the business with financial information for decision-making.
- Promote good corporate governance and financial control.
- Ensure compliance with Group policies, procedures, and applicable legislation.
- Monitor financial transactions and identify potential discrepancies or areas requiring attention.
- Support the effective management of debtors, creditors, expenses, accruals, and labour costs.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Analysis and Cost Control
- Analyse cost centres and identify areas of concern or potential improvement.
- Review expenses to ensure they are posted to the correct cost allocation.
- Check expense allocations against approved budgets.
- Highlight unusual expenses, discrepancies, and variances for further investigation.
- Assist with monitoring financial performance against budget.
- Provide accurate financial information to support business decisions.
Month-End Reporting
- Generate accurate month-end financial reports.
- Assist with the execution and completion of month-end financial processes.
- Ensure financial information is complete, accurate, and submitted within required deadlines.
- Assist with reviewing financial data and identifying discrepancies.
- Support the finance team with required month-end accounting administration.
Debtors and Accounts Receivable
- Ensure customer invoices and debtors’ statements are generated and sent out on time.
- Ensure payments received are correctly allocated and posted.
- Monitor debtor accounts and follow up on outstanding payments.
- Follow up on overdue accounts to ensure collections remain within required targets.
- Assist in improving cash flow through effective debtor management.
- Follow up on documentation required for new debtors.
- Ensure new debtor documentation is completed and submitted to Group Credit.

Creditors and Accounts Payable
- Analyse creditors’ age analysis regularly.
- Monitor outstanding supplier accounts.
- Assist in ensuring creditors are paid within agreed payment terms.
- Follow up on overdue creditor accounts and ensure issues are addressed.
- Help manage creditor-related queries and discrepancies.
- Support effective supplier account management to minimise the risk of disruptions to business operations and production line stoppages.
Labour Cost Reporting
- Prepare and complete labour reports accurately and on time.
- Ensure labour costs are allocated to the correct cost centres or categories.
- Review labour-related financial information for accuracy.
- Assist in identifying and resolving discrepancies in labour cost allocations.
Accruals and Expense Reviews
- Conduct timely reviews of accruals and expenses.
- Ensure accruals and expenses remain within approved targets.
- Investigate and explain financial variances.
- Assist with maintaining accurate financial records and supporting documentation.
General Finance Administration
- Assist with ad hoc accounting and finance administration.
- Maintain accurate and organised financial documentation.
- Assist with financial queries from internal departments and relevant stakeholders.
- Follow established financial policies, procedures, and internal controls.
- Perform other finance-related duties as required by management.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Applicants should have:
- Grade 12 / Matric.
- Diploma in Finance or a relevant finance-related qualification.
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE
The ideal candidate should have:
- At least 3 years’ experience working in a finance environment.
- Practical experience in creditors and debtors functions.
- Previous experience working with SAP.
- Experience with financial administration and reporting.
- Exposure to cost centre analysis, expense allocation, and financial controls will be advantageous.
KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should have knowledge of:
- Microsoft Office applications.
- SAP or similar financial systems.
- Financial administration processes.
- Debtors and creditors management.
- Financial reporting and month-end processes.
- Expense monitoring and cost allocation.
- Budget monitoring and variance analysis.
Knowledge or experience within the automotive components manufacturing environment will be advantageous.
