The Artisan Electrician will contribute to the reliability and efficiency of the company’s manufacturing operations by ensuring that electrical equipment, machinery, and plant systems remain operational and are maintained according to required safety and quality standards.

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE POSITION

The main purpose of the role is to support manufacturing production lines by performing electrical maintenance on plant and equipment in the float and off-line cutting areas.

The successful candidates will also assist with plant improvements where necessary, with the overall goal of improving machine availability, reducing downtime, and supporting continuous production.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The appointed Artisan Electricians will be responsible for:

  • Performing routine electrical maintenance according to planned maintenance schedules.
  • Following approved work instructions, procedures, and quality assurance plans.
  • Carrying out planned electrical repairs in line with company safety requirements.
  • Responding to equipment breakdowns and completing repairs with minimum delay.
  • Troubleshooting electrical faults and assisting with the restoration of equipment.
  • Reporting abnormal, unsafe, or adverse plant conditions to the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Recording all maintenance and repair work completed in the daily time-record work book.
  • Working closely with production teams to minimise unnecessary interruptions to manufacturing processes.
  • Supporting improvements and modifications to plant and equipment when required.
  • Ensuring all maintenance activities are completed to a high standard of workmanship.
  • Performing standby duties according to the applicable standby roster.
  • Complying with workplace health, safety, quality, and environmental requirements.
  • Supporting the availability and reliability of critical production equipment.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should meet the following educational and professional requirements:

  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • N3 Electrical Engineering qualification.
  • Valid Trade Test Certificate – Electrician.

Applicants who do not meet the required trade and technical qualifications may not be considered for this specific artisan position.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

The position requires candidates with practical industrial maintenance experience, including:

  • At least 3 years of relevant maintenance experience in a production plant and equipment environment.
  • Approximately 3 years of post-apprenticeship experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Experience working with electrical systems and industrial production equipment.
  • Practical experience troubleshooting and repairing electrical equipment in a plant environment.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE

Candidates should ideally have knowledge and practical exposure to several of the following:

  • PLCs (Programmable Logic Controllers).
  • HT and LT transformers.
  • Combustion furnaces and/or burners.
  • Electro-pneumatic systems.
  • Hydraulic systems.
  • Circuit breakers.
  • AC and DC drives.
  • Belt conveyors.
  • Mixers and vibrators.
  • Motor starters.
  • Electrical control systems.
  • Electrical panel commissioning.
  • Industrial plant and machinery maintenance.
  • Fault finding and electrical breakdown maintenance.

WHO CAN APPLY?
