Salary

The position is graded according to the applicant’s qualifying experience:

  • Grade 1: R181,230 per annum, plus benefits
  • Grade 2: R211,401 per annum, plus benefits
  • Grade 3: R249,141 per annum, plus benefits

The applicable salary grade will depend on the candidate’s recognised nursing experience and the requirements of the post.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 or equivalent qualification.
  • A qualification that allows registration with the South African Nursing Council (SANC) as a Nursing Assistant.
  • Current 2026 SANC registration as a Nursing Assistant.
  • Appropriate recognised nursing experience after registration with SANC.
  • Knowledge of basic nursing care processes and procedures.
  • Knowledge of nursing legislation and relevant legal frameworks.
  • Understanding of the National Core Standards.
  • Knowledge of the Nursing Act.
  • Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Understanding of the Patient’s Rights Charter.
  • Knowledge of Batho Pele principles.
  • Familiarity with Public Service Regulations.
  • Understanding of the Labour Relations Act and applicable disciplinary and grievance procedures.

Experience Requirements by Grade

Grade 1

Applicants require less than 3 years of appropriate/recognised nursing experience after registration with SANC as an Enrolled Nurse, as specified in the vacancy requirements.

Grade 2

Applicants require 10 years or more but less than 13 years of appropriate/recognised experience with SANC as a Nursing Assistant.

Grade 3

Applicants require 20 years or more but less than 23 years of appropriate/recognisable experience after registration with SANC as a Nursing Assistant.

Key Responsibilities

The appointed Nursing Assistants will be responsible for supporting patients and nursing teams in the delivery of basic nursing care.

Duties include:

  • Assisting patients with activities of daily living.
  • Providing physical care to patients.
  • Providing elementary clinical nursing care.
  • Supporting patients according to their individual care needs.
  • Promoting patient comfort and basic wellbeing.
  • Using nursing resources effectively.
