About the Position

Rand Water is seeking a suitably qualified and experienced Driver to support its Bulk Water Services – Operations portfolio at the Zuikerbosch site in Three Rivers East, Vereeniging.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the safe and efficient transportation of employees, equipment and other authorised items to various destinations. The position also requires the driver to maintain assigned vehicles in a clean, safe and roadworthy condition while complying with road traffic legislation, occupational health and safety requirements and Rand Water’s operational standards.

Job Purpose

The primary purpose of the Driver position is to ensure that staff and equipment are transported safely to designated destinations and that vehicles are properly inspected, maintained and kept in a safe and roadworthy condition.

Key Responsibilities

Staff and Equipment Transportation

  • Transport staff and equipment safely to various operational destinations.
  • Ensure that authorised passengers and equipment are transported in accordance with company procedures.
  • Plan daily transportation activities according to operational requirements.
  • Ensure that required transport is available when needed.
  • Complete transport schedules for the Mechanical section.
  • Follow designated routes and applicable road traffic regulations.
  • Apply defensive driving techniques at all times.

Vehicle Safety and Maintenance

  • Conduct daily inspections of assigned motor vehicles.
  • Check vehicles for mechanical, safety and operational defects before use.
  • Identify, investigate and report vehicle faults.
  • Ensure vehicles remain clean and roadworthy.
  • Report maintenance requirements promptly.
  • Support planned vehicle maintenance activities.
  • Ensure vehicles are used responsibly and in accordance with company procedures.

Administration and Financial Duties

  • Complete required vehicle and transport documentation accurately.
  • Maintain accurate transport schedules and related records.
  • Handle petty cash safely and responsibly where required.
  • Report discrepancies or incidents involving company vehicles and resources.
  • Ensure required documentation is completed and submitted according to internal procedures.

Customer Service

  • Respond professionally to customer and operational requests.
  • Maintain good working relationships with colleagues, customers and other stakeholders.
  • Provide reliable transport support to operational teams.
  • Demonstrate a professional and service-oriented approach.

Health, Safety and Compliance

  • Maintain compliance with applicable road traffic laws.
  • Follow the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Observe Rand Water’s health, safety and operational procedures.
  • Maintain high standards of workplace safety.
  • Report accidents, incidents, defects and unsafe conditions promptly.
  • Ensure that driving activities are conducted responsibly and safely.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ relevant driving experience.
  • Valid Code EB driver’s licence.
  • Ability to successfully pass the Rand Water K53 driving test.
  • Valid Public Driver’s Permit.
  • Knowledge of road traffic rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of occupational health and safety requirements.

Who Should Apply?
