Purpose of the Role

The Risk Recoveries Team operates within the Collections and Recoveries division and is responsible for identifying, assessing, monitoring, and mitigating risks arising from recoveries-related activities.

The successful candidate will:

  • Handle legal matters relating to debt recovery.
  • Review and process court orders and legal documents.
  • Liaise with attorneys, debt counsellors, debt collectors, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with banking legislation and internal policies.
  • Assist in protecting the bank against legal, financial, and operational risks.

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates may be required to:

  • Review legal documentation and court orders.
  • Communicate with attorneys, debt counsellors, and debt collectors.
  • Monitor recoveries-related legal processes.
  • Conduct legal and financial investigations where required.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation.
  • Assist with risk identification and mitigation.
  • Analyse information and prepare reports.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Support internal stakeholders with legal and recoveries-related matters.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvements.

Minimum Requirements

Experience

Applicants must have either:

  • 5 years’ relevant banking or legal experience if holding a diploma or certificate; or
  • 2 years’ relevant banking or legal experience if holding a bachelor’s degree.

Candidates should also have experience in:

  • Working with legal documentation.
  • Recoveries and collections.
  • Debt counselling.
  • Debt collection processes.
  • Liaising with attorneys.

Preferred Experience

The following will be advantageous:

  • Previous Capitec Bank experience.
  • Candidate Attorney or Paralegal experience.
  • Legal research.
  • Drafting legal opinions and legal documents.
  • Due diligence investigations.
  • Financial investigations.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including:
    • Pivot Tables
    • VLOOKUP
    • Data analysis
    • Reporting

Minimum Qualifications

  • Diploma in Law; or
  • Diploma in Risk and Compliance; or
  • Equivalent certification.

Preferred Qualification

  • Bachelor’s Degree or other relevant tertiary qualification in:
    • Law
    • Risk and Compliance

Knowledge Requirements

Applicants should possess knowledge of:

  • Microsoft Office Suite.
  • National Credit Act (NCA).
  • Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
