About the Role

The Branch Administrator is responsible for ensuring the smooth daily operation of the laboratory and Care Centre through efficient administration, patient support, specimen handling, and accurate record management. This role contributes to quality healthcare by ensuring laboratory processes run efficiently while delivering professional customer service to patients, healthcare professionals, and colleagues.

Main Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Providing administrative support to the branch.
  • Welcoming patients and creating a professional first impression.
  • Assisting patients with completing laboratory request forms.
  • Capturing patient and medical information accurately into the Laboratory Information System (LIS).
  • Answering telephone calls and responding to general enquiries.
  • Scheduling and coordinating routine administrative activities.
  • Performing medical aid benefit verification where required.
  • Assisting patients with billing and account enquiries.
  • Processing cash and card payments.
  • Issuing receipts and pro forma invoices.
  • Maintaining accurate filing systems and administrative records.
  • Receiving laboratory specimens from collection points.
  • Verifying specimen details against requested laboratory tests.
  • Correctly labelling, sorting and batching specimens.
  • Preparing specimens for transportation and laboratory processing.
  • Ensuring laboratory reports reach doctors, hospitals and healthcare facilities promptly.
  • Maintaining confidentiality of patient information.
  • Following laboratory quality assurance procedures.
  • Reporting administrative issues or delays promptly.
  • Supporting branch management with daily operational requirements.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • 1–2 years of administration experience.
  • Experience within a pathology, laboratory or healthcare environment will be an added advantage.
  • Good computer literacy.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong organisational and planning skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to multitask in a busy environment.
  • High attention to detail.
