The IFA Graduate Programme provides a structured three-year career pathway that progresses from administrative support to paraplanning and ultimately to a junior financial adviser role under supervision.

Programme Structure

Year 1 – Foundation Phase: Administrative Assistant

Stipend: R6,500 per month

The first year focuses on building technical proficiency, compliance knowledge and client-support capabilities.

Responsibilities and learning areas include:

  • Supporting Independent Financial Advisers with client onboarding.
  • Assisting with administration and compliance documentation.
  • Participating in structured technical, business and client training.
  • Developing an understanding of financial needs analysis.
  • Learning about FAIS and POPIA compliance requirements.
  • Supporting client communication and follow-ups.
  • Ensuring cases are processed accurately and resolved promptly.
  • Building relationships with clients, mentors and stakeholders.
  • Developing skills in practice management and financial literacy.
  • Gaining exposure to marketing and digital tools.
  • Receiving continuous mentorship and coaching.

Year 2 – Paraplanner Role: Transition Phase

Salary: R14,000 per month

During the second year, graduates transition into a paraplanner role and develop more advanced technical and financial-planning skills.

  • Supporting advisers with holistic financial planning.
  • Beginning preparation for the Regulatory Examination (RE5).
  • Developing holistic financial plans.
  • Identifying cross-selling and upselling opportunities.
  • Assisting with client reviews.
  • Applying knowledge of financial products.
  • Gaining experience with quoting processes.
  • Understanding client segmentation.
  • Strengthening analytical and reporting skills.
  • Developing stronger client relationship capabilities.
  • Continuing structured training and mentorship through the New Adviser Academy.

Year 3 – Junior Financial Adviser Under Supervision

Salary: R18,000 per month

The third year focuses on adviser readiness and meeting Fit & Proper competency requirements.

Graduates will transition into a Junior Financial Adviser role while working under supervision.

The programme includes completion of relevant Fit & Proper competency requirements, including:

  • Class of Business training.
  • Product-specific accreditation.
  • RE5 qualification.
  • Practical exposure to client-facing engagements.
  • Financial advice delivery.
  • Ethical financial advisory practices.
  • Quarterly mock client-facing assessments.
  • Development of confidence in delivering inclusive financial solutions.

Graduates will also prepare for longer-term career progression, including potential RE1 examinations and the Certified Financial Planner (CFP) designation.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • A minimum of a BCom degree in one of the following fields:
    • Financial Planning
    • Estate Planning
    • Legal Business Management
    • Marketing
    • Communications
    • Finance
  • Strong digital capabilities.
  • Willingness to engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • No previous financial-services industry experience is required.
  • The programme is specifically designed for graduates who are eager to learn and develop.

Duties and Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be expected to:

  • Support IFAs with client onboarding, administration and compliance documentation.
  • Assist in preparing reports, presentations and data analysis to support business decisions.
  • Ensure compliance with FAIS, POPIA and other applicable regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in structured learning modules, assessments and feedback sessions.
  • Provide professional, client-centred support to IFAs and their clients.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with clients, community partners and internal stakeholders.
  • Contribute to service delivery that meets agreed standards and expectations.
  • Recommend improvements to client service.

Stipend and Salary Progression

The programme provides progressive financial remuneration as participants advance through the three-year development pathway:

  • Year 1: R6,500 per month stipend
  • Year 2: R14,000 per month salary
  • Year 3: R18,000 per month salary

The programme also provides structured training, mentorship and opportunities for professional progression.

The role offers a remote opportunity for some of the time, subject to the programme and operational requirements.
