About the Role

The Pharmacy Stores Clerk will assist with the efficient management and replenishment of pharmacy and surgical stock. The position involves receiving and processing stock, maintaining accurate inventory records, replenishing wards and theatres, and ensuring that stock is correctly stored and controlled.

The successful candidate will work closely with the pharmacy and nursing teams to ensure that the required stock is available for patient care.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Process one-for-one stock replenishment.
  • Replenish ward stock according to required levels.
  • Receive deliveries of pharmacy and surgical stock.
  • Unpack, check and barcode surgical stock.
  • Pack stock correctly onto pharmacy store shelves.
  • Conduct weekly binning of surgical stock.
  • Monitor stock usage and availability.
  • Check stock expiry dates and ensure proper stock rotation.
  • Ensure compliance with formulary requirements.
  • Perform regular cycle counts.
  • Assist with full stock-take processes.
  • Replenish surgical stock to wards and theatre.
  • Process transfers of surgical stock to wards and theatres.
  • Issue and charge surgical stock to in-patients.
  • Follow up on out-of-stock and to-follow items.
  • Request out-of-stock letters where necessary.
  • Communicate stock shortages with unit managers.
  • Assist with managing over- and under-recoveries.
  • Help wards establish appropriate minimum and maximum stock levels.
  • Assist with updating ward stock lists.
  • Provide support regarding new product information.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should have:

  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Higher Certificate in Inventory Management and Stock Control, OR
  • Diploma in Store Management, OR equivalent qualification.
  • 1–2 years of relevant work experience.

Advantageous Experience

The following will strengthen an application:

  • Previous experience in a private healthcare environment.
  • Experience in the healthcare funding industry.
  • Previous experience using SAP.
  • Pharmacy stores or surgical stock experience.
  • Experience with inventory control and stock-taking procedures.
