Job Overview

AFGRI is looking for an experienced and safety-conscious Boiler Operator to join its operations in Paterson. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating and monitoring boiler systems safely and efficiently to ensure continuous steam production while maintaining compliance with company procedures and Occupational Health and Safety regulations.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10
  • Valid Boiler Operator Certificate
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a Boiler Operator
  • Experience in an animal feed manufacturing environment will be an added advantage

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate the boiler safely and efficiently in accordance with the Boiler Operating Manual, SOPs, and checklists
  • Perform daily pre-shift inspections of the boiler system
  • Monitor and record boiler pressure readings on log sheets
  • Conduct routine boiler water quality tests
  • Ensure uninterrupted steam production for plant operations
  • Maintain accurate operational records and documentation
  • Report faults, abnormalities, and maintenance requirements promptly
  • Ensure the boiler house and surrounding work area remain clean and tidy
  • Follow all Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) policies and procedures
  • Work closely with maintenance and production teams to minimise downtime

Required Knowledge & Skills

  • Sound knowledge of boiler operations and maintenance
  • Basic mechanical troubleshooting skills
  • Understanding of health and safety regulations
  • Ability to complete boiler log sheets accurately and in compliance with legal requirements
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Attention to detail and strong problem-solving ability
