About the Position

Transnet Property is inviting applications for the position of Work Integrated Technical Learner – Carpentry (KZN) in Durban.

The Work Integrated Learning (WIL) Trainee Programme is designed to provide recently qualified apprentices with a Red Seal the opportunity to gain practical workplace experience. The programme allows participants to apply their academic, vocational and practical knowledge in a real-world working environment.

Through hands-on training, mentorship and exposure to industry-specific tasks, the programme aims to strengthen participants’ workplace skills and enhance their employability.

The WIL Trainee Programme will run for 24 months.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be expected to:

  • Perform routine maintenance and repairs.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot maintenance-related issues.
  • Ensure that all work is carried out in compliance with applicable safety regulations.
  • Maintain tools and equipment in good working condition.
  • Keep proper records and documentation of work performed.
  • Report completed work, maintenance issues and other relevant matters to supervisors.
  • Follow workplace procedures and safety requirements while carrying out assigned duties.

Qualifications and Experience

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Carpentry Trade Test Certificate.
  • Must have been trade tested within the past 4 years.
  • Must be between 18 and 35 years old.
  • Must have less than 1 year of work experience.
  • Must be a South African citizen.
  • Applicants must have recently qualified as apprentices and hold a Red Seal.

Competencies

Applicants should demonstrate an appropriate level of technical and workplace competency:

Beginner

  • Basic understanding of tools.
  • Basic understanding of workplace safety procedures.

Intermediate

  • Ability to carry out assigned tasks independently with minimal supervision.

Advanced

  • Expert-level technical skills.
  • Ability to supervise and train other employees where required.

Programme Duration

24 months

The programme is intended to provide trainees with practical exposure, workplace experience, mentorship and opportunities to develop their technical skills within a professional environment.
