Minimum Requirements

To qualify for the Food Service Aid position, applicants should meet the following requirements:

  • Minimum Grade 10 qualification.
  • Grade 12 will be an added advantage.
  • Relevant previous exposure or experience in a Food Service Hospital environment will be an advantage.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Good teamwork skills.
  • Basic numeracy and literacy skills.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding work.
  • Must be reliable and trustworthy.
  • Must be willing to work shifts, weekends and public holidays.
  • Understanding of the Batho Pele Principles in relation to Food Services.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidates will assist with the daily operations of the Food Service Unit at Weskoppies Hospital.

Responsibilities will include:

  • Performing routine tasks within the Food Service Unit.
  • Operating large-scale food service equipment.
  • Maintaining general cleaning to ensure hygiene and safety standards are maintained.
  • Unpacking and packing provisions into storerooms, cold rooms and freezers.
  • Cleaning and maintaining cold rooms, freezers and storerooms.
  • Assisting with the preparation of normal and therapeutic diets.
  • Portioning and distributing meals.
  • Adhering to policies and guidelines regulating Food Services.
  • Rotating work duties and acting as a reliever within the Food Service Unit.
  • Supporting a clean, safe and hygienic food service environment.
