Purpose of the Role
The Operator Laundry is responsible for ensuring that workwear, personal protective equipment (PPE), uniforms, and other laundry items are professionally cleaned, dried, folded, packaged, and delivered. The role supports plant operations by maintaining high hygiene standards and ensuring that employees always have clean protective clothing available.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be responsible for:
- Operating industrial washing machines, dryers, and laundry equipment.
- Collecting and receiving laundry from different operational areas.
- Sorting laundry by colour, fabric type, and washing requirements.
- Selecting the correct wash cycles and detergent according to fabric specifications.
- Monitoring laundry equipment during operation to ensure quality results.
- Folding, hanging, packaging, and preparing clean laundry for collection or delivery.
- Delivering cleaned PPE and garments back to operational departments.
- Cleaning laundry equipment and performing routine maintenance checks.
- Reporting damaged equipment or mechanical faults.
- Maintaining accurate housekeeping and hygiene standards.
- Following all company safety procedures when handling chemicals and laundry equipment.
- Assisting with stock control of laundry chemicals and consumables where required.
- Ensuring customer satisfaction by providing efficient laundry services.

Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent N3 qualification.
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in an explosives or industrial environment.
- Previous laundry or housekeeping experience will be advantageous.
- Basic understanding of industrial laundry processes.
- Ability to work shifts when required.
- Good communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and within a team.
Physical Requirements
This position requires candidates who are physically fit and able to:
- Lift laundry loads of approximately 25 kg.
- Push and pull loaded laundry carts.
- Stand for extended periods.
- Bend, reach, stretch, and carry heavy items.
- Work safely around industrial machinery and chemicals.
