Job Purpose

The Junior IT Support Specialist (Batch Operator) provides after-hours operational support to ensure enterprise systems, applications, and scheduled batch processes run efficiently. The role focuses on proactive monitoring, incident management, troubleshooting, operational reporting, and maintaining business readiness before the start of each working day.

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Providing first-line IT operational support during night shifts.
  • Monitoring enterprise systems, servers, and applications.
  • Managing scheduled batch processes using enterprise scheduling tools.
  • Investigating failed batch jobs and restoring services where possible.
  • Monitoring system performance using enterprise monitoring platforms.
  • Performing daily health checks on business-critical applications.
  • Logging and managing incidents through IT Service Management (ITSM) systems.
  • Escalating critical incidents according to SLA requirements.
  • Preparing operational readiness and end-of-shift reports.
  • Maintaining operational documentation, runbooks, and knowledge articles.
  • Supporting operational compliance with company policies and security standards.
  • Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Working closely with day-shift IT Operations teams during handovers.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should possess:

  • Grade 12 (Matric / National Senior Certificate)
  • 1–2 years of experience in:
    • IT Operations
    • Production Support
    • Batch Processing environments
    • Monitoring and alerting systems
