The Legal Practice Council (LPC) is recruiting 14 Trainee Legal Officers to join its Gauteng Provincial Office in Pretoria. This is an excellent opportunity for recently admitted Attorneys or Advocates to gain practical regulatory and legal compliance experience within South Africa’s legal profession.
The successful candidates will work alongside experienced legal professionals and contribute to investigations, compliance monitoring, disciplinary processes, legal administration, and regulatory oversight.

About the Legal Practice Council
The Legal Practice Council is the statutory body responsible for regulating the legal profession in South Africa. It ensures that legal practitioners maintain high ethical and professional standards while protecting the interests of the public through regulation, oversight, and disciplinary processes.
This traineeship provides newly admitted legal practitioners with valuable exposure to the regulatory side of the legal profession.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must possess:
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- LLB or Law Degree (NQF Level 8)
- Admission as an Attorney or Advocate within the last six (6) months
- Sound knowledge of:
- Legal Practice Act No. 28 of 2014
- Section 109 Regulations
- Rules of the Legal Practice Council
- Code of Conduct for Legal Practitioners, Candidate Legal Practitioners and Juristic Entities

Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates may be required to:
- Monitor compliance with legal and regulatory requirements
- Process practitioner registrations and admissions
- Assess applications and legal documentation
- Review practitioner and law firm records
- Identify regulatory non-compliance
- Maintain legal databases and official records
- Support Fidelity Fund Certificate compliance processes
- Assist with examinations and assessments
- Investigate complaints and allegations of misconduct
- Gather, analyse and evaluate evidence
- Prepare investigation reports and recommendations
- Conduct inspections and follow-up investigations
- Prepare committee agendas, reports and submissions
- Participate in disciplinary and regulatory committees
- Assist with drafting charges where applicable
- Present findings before committees under supervision
- Record committee decisions and outcomes
- Conduct legal risk assessments
- Assist with curatorship administration
- Respond to enquiries from practitioners and members of the public
- Prepare legal correspondence, memoranda and reports
- Maintain accurate case files
- Liaise with courts, government departments and stakeholders
