Overview

Coca-Cola Beverages South Africa (CCBA) is seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Controller to join its Pretoria operations. This role is responsible for supervising maintenance teams, ensuring equipment reliability, coordinating preventive and corrective maintenance activities, and driving continuous improvement initiatives within a high-performance FMCG manufacturing environment.

The successful candidate will play a critical role in maintaining plant efficiency, reducing downtime, ensuring compliance with SHEQ and GMP standards, and supporting asset reliability strategies across the facility.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Execution & Team Supervision

  • Lead and supervise Maintenance Technicians and artisans.
  • Coordinate daily maintenance activities and technician deployment.
  • Ensure timely completion of planned, preventive, corrective, and breakdown maintenance.
  • Monitor maintenance schedules and workload distribution.

Equipment Reliability & Continuous Improvement

  • Support reliability engineering initiatives and asset care strategies.
  • Conduct root cause analyses and implement corrective actions.
  • Monitor equipment performance using MTTR and MTBF metrics.
  • Assist in implementing Reliability-Centred Maintenance (RCM) programs.

CMMS & Maintenance Reporting

  • Manage maintenance activities through SAP PM and CMMS systems.
  • Ensure accurate job card completion and maintenance records.
  • Analyse maintenance trends and equipment failure data.
  • Maintain technical documentation and equipment records.

Shutdown & Project Coordination

  • Plan maintenance shutdowns and major overhauls.
  • Coordinate technician resources for projects and scheduled interventions.
  • Ensure availability of tools, materials, and spare parts.

Safety, Quality & Compliance

  • Enforce SHEQ, GMP, and engineering compliance standards.
  • Ensure adherence to lockout/tagout and permit-to-work procedures.
  • Participate in audits and continuous compliance improvement activities.

Leadership & Development

  • Coach, mentor, and develop maintenance personnel.
  • Conduct performance reviews and support skills development programs.
  • Collaborate with technical trainers to enhance artisan competencies.

Minimum Requirements

Education

  • N6 Certificate or National Diploma in Mechanical, Electrical, or Mechatronic Engineering.
  • Qualified Artisan Trade Test (Mechanical, Electrical, or Millwright).

Preferred Qualification

  • BTech Engineering qualification or equivalent technical qualification.

Experience

  • Minimum 5 years’ maintenance experience in a manufacturing or FMCG environment.
  • Proven experience working with CMMS systems.
  • Exposure to TPM, RCM, and Lean Maintenance methodologies.
  • Experience across both mechanical and electrical maintenance disciplines is advantageous.

Required Skills

  • Strong mechanical and electrical maintenance knowledge.
  • Maintenance planning and scheduling expertise.
  • Breakdown analysis and troubleshooting skills.
  • Knowledge of MTTR, MTBF, 5 Whys, and Fishbone analysis techniques.
  • Understanding of GMP, SHEQ, and engineering standards.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and OEM documentation.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
