About the Opportunity

Unitrans is looking for experienced and safety-conscious Bus Drivers to join its Passenger Transport Division in North West, South Africa. This role is ideal for professional drivers who have extensive passenger transport experience and a strong commitment to road safety, customer service, and compliance with transport regulations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting passengers on scheduled routes, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the journey, and maintaining company vehicles according to operational standards. Drivers will also play a key role in supporting Unitrans’ commitment to zero harm, operational excellence, and customer satisfaction.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or National Certificate
  • Valid Driver’s License with applicable categories:
    • CE – G
    • CE – PG
    • C – G
  • Valid Public Driving Permit (PrDP/PG)
  • Minimum 5 years of proven bus driving or passenger transport experience
  • Excellent knowledge of South African road traffic legislation
  • Strong defensive and preventive driving skills
  • Ability to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and extended hours when required
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to maintain accurate vehicle and trip documentation

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Passenger Transportation

  • Transport passengers safely and efficiently on approved routes.
  • Ensure passengers arrive at destinations safely and on time.
  • Maintain a professional and customer-focused attitude at all times.
  • Adhere to all company transport procedures and customer service standards.

Vehicle Inspection and Maintenance

  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections.
  • Identify and report mechanical defects or safety concerns immediately.
  • Complete inspection checklists accurately.
  • Ensure vehicles remain clean, roadworthy, and properly fueled.
  • Report any damage or maintenance requirements to supervisors.

Safety and Compliance

  • Strictly comply with Unitrans safety procedures and HST regulations.
  • Follow all traffic laws, road signs, and speed limits.
  • Use defensive driving techniques to prevent incidents and accidents.
  • Ensure all passengers wear seatbelts where applicable.
  • Remove vehicle keys after parking and maintain control of ignition keys.
  • Use wheel chocks when parking as required by company policy.
  • Participate in safety meetings, toolbox talks, and DSS sessions.

Administration and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate driver logbooks and trip records.
  • Record driving hours and operational activities.
  • Report incidents, accidents, near misses, and property damage immediately.
  • Complete all required transport documentation and reports.
  • Register passengers and verify trip records.

Operational Compliance

  • Follow designated routes and collection schedules.
  • Avoid unauthorized route deviations.
  • Make stops only at approved locations.
  • Comply with customer SMS policies and company operational procedures.
  • Read and understand the Driver’s Manual, Company Code of Conduct, and Passenger Rules and Regulations.
