The Unit Administrative Assistant plays an important role in supporting nursing unit operations, maintaining accurate records, assisting patients, and ensuring administrative processes run smoothly.
Main Purpose of the Job
The purpose of this position is to deliver optimal administrative support to nursing unit processes and procedures while ensuring efficient patient administration, reception services, and pharmaceutical stock control.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates will be responsible for:
Administrative Support
- Performing general administrative duties within the nursing unit
- Maintaining accurate records and documentation
- Capturing and updating information on hospital systems
- Assisting with office management activities
Patient Administration
- Supporting patient admission and discharge processes
- Assisting with patient-related administrative functions
- Ensuring accurate patient information is recorded and maintained
Pharmaceutical Stock Control
- Monitoring pharmaceutical stock levels
- Assisting with stock control procedures
- Maintaining accurate stock records
Reception Services
- Welcoming patients and visitors
- Managing incoming telephone calls professionally
- Providing information and assistance to patients and staff
- Handling compliments and complaints appropriately
Minimum Requirements
Essential Education
- Grade 12 (Matric)
- Computer Literacy subjects at school or an additional Computer Literacy Certificate
Desired Education and Training
- Reception training
- Secretarial training
- Personal Assistant training
- Administration training
Experience Requirements
Essential Experience
- No previous experience required

- Administrative experience in a healthcare environment
- Reception or office administration experience
- Experience working with patients or customers
