Handyman Job Opportunity – Durbanville, Western Cape
is recruiting a Permanent Handyman for its Durbanville Provincial Office (Western Cape). This role is part of the Fixed Properties Maintenance department and focuses on ensuring all buildings and facilities are well-maintained, safe, and fully operational.
This is a hands-on technical role suited to an experienced maintenance professional who can work independently, solve problems quickly, and maintain high standards across multiple maintenance tasks.

Role Purpose
The successful candidate will be responsible for daily and scheduled maintenance work across AVBOB offices and facilities in the region. This includes repairs, inspections, preventative maintenance, and minor construction-related tasks.
The role ensures that all properties remain in excellent condition, compliant with safety standards, and fully functional for operational use.
Key Responsibilities
General Maintenance & Repairs
- Carry out electrical, plumbing, and minor mechanical repairs
- Perform carpentry, painting, tiling, and basic construction work
- Repair or replace faulty fixtures, fittings, and equipment
- Assist with appliance and equipment maintenance
Building Inspections & Preventative Maintenance
- Conduct routine inspections of buildings and facilities
- Identify maintenance risks and report defects timeously
- Perform preventative maintenance to reduce future breakdowns
- Ensure compliance with maintenance schedules and job cards
Operational Support
- Assist Foreman and maintenance team with larger projects
- Transport tools, materials, and equipment when required
- Collect supplies from vendors and manage stock movement
- Support urgent repairs and after-hours call-outs when needed
Health, Safety & Housekeeping
- Ensure all work complies with Occupational Health and Safety regulations
- Maintain clean, safe, and organised work areas
- Properly use and store tools and equipment

Minimum Requirements
Education
- Grade 10 (minimum requirement)
Experience
- At least 5 years’ experience in handyman or general maintenance work
- Proven experience in building maintenance environments preferred
Technical Skills
Strong practical knowledge in:
- Electrical repairs (basic to intermediate level)
- Plumbing maintenance and leak repairs
- Carpentry and general construction work
- Painting and surface finishing
- Appliance troubleshooting and repairs
