YES Candidate: Assistant Teacher (Part-Time)

is seeking passionate and motivated YES Candidates to join as a Part-Time Assistant Teacher at Curro Durbanville (Western Cape), starting June 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for aspiring educators to gain hands-on classroom experience within a structured, values-driven school environment.


About the Opportunity

This role forms part of the YES (Youth Employment Service) Programme, aimed at giving young graduates meaningful workplace experience in education.

You will work closely with qualified teachers, supporting daily teaching activities while developing practical skills in classroom management, learner engagement, and curriculum delivery.


Key Responsibilities

Classroom Support

  • Assist the teacher with daily lesson delivery and preparation
  • Support learners during class activities and group work
  • Help maintain an organised, focused, and productive classroom environment

Learner Development

  • Support reading development and literacy improvement
  • Assist with homework planning and revision exercises
  • Provide extra support to learners who need additional attention

Classroom Management

  • Help manage learner behaviour and enforce classroom rules
  • Assist with seating arrangements, learning materials, and classroom setup
  • Support communication between teachers, learners, and (where needed) parents

Extramural & School Activities

  • Assist in planning and supervising school outings and events
  • Support sports, cultural, and after-school activities
  • Help ensure learner safety during activities


Skills & Competencies Required

  • Strong passion for teaching and child development
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work well under supervision and in a team
  • Strong organisational and planning ability
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Patient, energetic, and adaptable in a classroom environment

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor of Education (BEd) qualification
  • Knowledge of the CAPS curriculum
  • Registered with SACE (South African Council for Educators)
  • Clear criminal record
  • Willingness to work extended hours when required
