Old Mutual is recruiting a Risk Officer (Enterprise Risk Specialist) to join the Group Risk: Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) team. This is a mid-level Line 2 role, offering exposure to enterprise-wide risk management, senior stakeholders, and Board-level governance within a leading African financial services group.


About the Role

Reporting to the Senior Risk Officer, this position partners with Line 1 management to provide independent oversight, constructive challenge, and assurance that risks are identified, managed, and monitored in line with Old Mutual’s risk strategy, appetite, and control standards. The role also contributes to the ERM Centre of Excellence, helping shape a future-fit risk function.


Key Responsibilities

Advisory & Risk Partnership

  • Advise and partner with Line 1 management to embed effective risk practices
  • Challenge alignment between business strategies and Group risk strategy
  • Provide guidance to keep residual risk within appetite

Risk Management & Controls

  • Support the design and enhancement of risk processes and controls
  • Ensure consistent application of the risk management lifecycle
  • Assess the effectiveness of controls and risk reporting
  • Identify, escalate, and monitor risk events and breaches
  • Provide Line 2 opinions on risk profiles and control environments

Reporting & Governance

  • Define risk reporting standards and requirements
  • Prepare and present Line 2 risk reports to Executive Management and Boards

Risk Culture & Centre of Excellence

  • Strengthen risk culture and accountability across business units
  • Participate in risk deep-dives, thematic reviews, and ERM initiatives


Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree (required)
  • CA(SA) or qualification in Risk Management, Audit, Engineering or similar (advantageous)
  • 4–7 years’ experience in enterprise risk, internal audit or risk advisory
  • Strong knowledge of ERM frameworks, Line 2 oversight and internal controls
  • Experience engaging with Executive and Board-level stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Resilient, proactive, and curious mindset
