Purpose of the Role

The Social Auxiliary Worker will provide psychosocial support and community-based care under the supervision of a social worker, helping patients and families access healthcare and social support services.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent
  • Certificate in Social Auxiliary Work from a recognised institution
  • Minimum of 2 years’ relevant work experience
  • Registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP)
  • Fluent in English and isiXhosa
  • Computer literacy (MS Office is an advantage)
  • Clear criminal record
  • Valid Code 8 driver’s licence

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments
  • Complete household profiling using approved tools
  • Provide community-based care and referrals
  • Support social workers with patient and caregiver assessments
  • Facilitate structural programmes, including SASA
  • Build relationships with community stakeholders
  • Identify advocacy issues affecting clients
  • Assist with youth care club implementation
  • Refer patients to relevant support services
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports
  • Maintain accurate patient records and intervention documentation
