Purpose of the Role
The Social Auxiliary Worker will provide psychosocial support and community-based care under the supervision of a social worker, helping patients and families access healthcare and social support services.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent
- Certificate in Social Auxiliary Work from a recognised institution
- Minimum of 2 years’ relevant work experience
- Registered with the South African Council for Social Service Professions (SACSSP)
- Fluent in English and isiXhosa
- Computer literacy (MS Office is an advantage)
- Clear criminal record
- Valid Code 8 driver’s licence
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct comprehensive psychosocial assessments
- Complete household profiling using approved tools
- Provide community-based care and referrals
- Support social workers with patient and caregiver assessments
- Facilitate structural programmes, including SASA
- Build relationships with community stakeholders
- Identify advocacy issues affecting clients
- Assist with youth care club implementation
- Refer patients to relevant support services
- Prepare and submit monthly reports
- Maintain accurate patient records and intervention documentation
