Job Purpose
The successful candidate will support the operating theatre team by functioning as a scrub practitioner, circulator and anaesthetic assistant under the indirect supervision of a professional nurse.
The role also involves providing assistance in the recovery room under the direct supervision of a professional nurse, while maintaining patient safety, theatre standards and infection-control requirements.
Key Responsibilities
Patient Care
- Provide safe and quality patient care throughout the peri-operative process.
- Work collaboratively with professional nurses, doctors and other members of the multidisciplinary team.
- Follow established theatre procedures and standards.
- Assist with patient preparation and care as required.
Theatre Operations
- Assist as a scrub practitioner, circulator and anaesthetic assistant.
- Ensure effective preparation for allocated theatre lists.
- Support the smooth running of operating theatre activities.
- Assist with recovery-room duties under appropriate supervision.
Infection Prevention and Control
- Follow infection prevention and control procedures.
- Maintain appropriate aseptic techniques.
- Help minimise clinical risks within the theatre environment.
- Maintain high standards of cleanliness and safety.
Equipment and Stock
- Ensure optimal utilisation of theatre equipment.
- Assist with appropriate management of instruments.
- Monitor and use pharmaceutical and theatre stock responsibly.
- Help minimise wastage and financial risks.
Documentation and Risk Management
- Maintain accurate records.
- Identify and report potential risks.
- Follow relevant procedures and protocols.
- Ensure compliance with applicable theatre standards.
