The Manufacturing, Engineering and Related Services Sector Education and Training Authority (merSETA) is seeking an experienced and motivated professional to join its Client Services Division as a Client Liaison Officer (C4). This opportunity is ideal for candidates with experience in client relationship management, skills development, training coordination, and the manufacturing or engineering sector.

About the Role

The successful candidate will implement the merSETA Client Services Strategy by supporting employers with skills development initiatives, improving access to training opportunities, promoting learning programmes, facilitating grant funding, and ensuring compliance with workplace training requirements. The role focuses on strengthening relationships with employers while contributing to workforce development across the manufacturing and engineering sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Guide employers in developing, implementing, and monitoring Workplace Skills Plans (WSPs) and Annual Training Reports (ATRs).
  • Assist companies in applying for and claiming Mandatory Grants.
  • Identify suitable employers for Discretionary Grant funding opportunities.
  • Support the implementation of Memoranda of Agreement (MoAs) for funded projects.
  • Promote apprenticeships, learnerships, internships, bursaries, and other learning interventions.
  • Monitor the implementation and progress of funded training programmes.
  • Ensure employers comply with merSETA quality assurance and workplace approval requirements.
  • Promote participation in merSETA programmes and strategic projects.
  • Support community-based skills development initiatives, including rural development programmes.
  • Build and maintain productive relationships with employers, training providers, industry stakeholders, and other partners.
  • Compile accurate reports, maintain client records, and provide regular progress updates.
  • Provide guidance to employers where gaps are identified during programme implementation.
  • Market merSETA products, services, and funding opportunities within the region.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must possess:

  • A National Diploma (NQF Level 6) in one of the following:
    • Engineering Studies
    • Business Studies
    • Administration
    • Project Management
    • Human Resources
    • Occupationally Directed Education, Training and Development Practices (ODETD)
    • Development/Training or a related qualification.
  • A minimum of 4 years’ experience in a client liaison environment.
  • Experience within the manufacturing and engineering sector.
  • A valid South African driver’s licence.
  • Own legally registered and roadworthy vehicle.

Added Advantage

Preference may be given to applicants with:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (NQF Level 7) in a relevant field.
  • Qualified Artisan status.
  • Five years’ experience in a client liaison and technical training environment.
  • Practical knowledge of skills development and workplace training systems.

  • Strong interpersonal and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Excellent project management and organisational ability.
  • Sound understanding of the Skills Development Act and related legislation.
  • Knowledge of SAQA and workplace approval requirements.
  • Excellent report writing and presentation skills.
  • High level of computer literacy, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong planning, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
  • Professional communication and customer service skills.
