About the Immigration Officer Role

Minimum Requirements

To qualify, applicants must have:

  • NQF Level 6 qualification recognised by SAQA in fields such as:
    • Law
    • Public Management
    • Public Administration
    • Policing
    • Criminology
    • Forensics
    • Criminal Justice
  • Valid driver’s licence (Code B, C1, C, or EC1)
  • Valid Public Driver Permit (PDP)
  • Basic understanding of:

    • South African Constitution

Main Duties and Responsibilities

Immigration Officers will be responsible for:

  • Enforcing the Immigration Act 13 of 2002 and related legislation
  • Detecting and tracing undocumented foreigners
  • Processing detention and deportation procedures
  • Conducting inspections and investigations related to immigration violations
  • Issuing fines and notices for immigration offences
  • Preparing legal documentation and detention warrants
  • Presenting evidence in court and departmental hearings
  • Conducting interviews during investigations
  • Participating in joint law enforcement operations
