Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have:

  • Grade 10 / NQF Level 2 qualification.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a food service or catering environment.
  • Experience with large-scale cooking will be an added advantage.
  • Knowledge of food hygiene, health and safety procedures.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to perform physically demanding duties.
  • Willingness to work rotating shifts, weekends and public holidays.
  • Honest, reliable and trustworthy character.

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates will be responsible for:

  • Preparing and serving patient meals according to hospital standards.
  • Assisting with the preparation of normal and special diet meals.
  • Preparing meals and food displays for hospital functions.
  • Washing pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and kitchen equipment.
  • Cleaning kitchen floors, drains, storage rooms, fridges and freezer rooms.
  • Packing and unpacking food supplies into storage areas.
  • Operating food service machinery and kitchen equipment safely.
  • Maintaining high hygiene and infection-control standards.
  • Removing waste and sanitising dustbins.
  • Rotating between different work areas and shifts as required.
  • Following all hospital food service policies and procedures.
