About the Role
Nedbank is seeking four experienced Collections Consultants to join its Durban team. The successful candidates will play a key role in recovering outstanding debt, reducing credit losses, rehabilitating customer accounts, and protecting the bank’s financial interests. The position requires strong negotiation skills, customer engagement expertise, and a solid understanding of credit collections within the banking sector.

Key Duties and Responsibilities
Debt Recovery & Collections
- Recover outstanding debts and bank assets through approved internal and legal collection processes.
- Implement collection strategies to minimise financial losses and impairments.
- Monitor accounts and ensure collection activities meet service level agreements (SLAs).
- Negotiate repayment arrangements with clients and authorised third parties.
- Follow up on repayment commitments and monitor account performance.
Account Management
- Verify and maintain accurate customer account information.
- Review account histories and update customer profiles.
- Conduct account grading, age analysis, and risk categorisation.
- Notify clients regarding dormant, excess, or arrears accounts.
- Send collection letters, statements, and supporting correspondence.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Escalate high-risk matters including:
- Liquidations
- Deceased estates
- Debt review cases
- Business rescue proceedings
- Absconded clients
- Asset alienation
- Bad debt write-offs
- High-risk arrears accounts
- Ensure compliance with banking regulations, internal policies, and collection procedures.
- Monitor governance, risk, and control requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement
- Build and maintain relationships with internal departments and external stakeholders.
- Provide accurate information and updates to relevant stakeholders.
- Participate in monthly stakeholder meetings and progress reviews.
- Resolve customer queries relating to arrears and account status.
Continuous Improvement
- Identify opportunities to improve collection processes and efficiencies.
- Stay informed on legislative and industry developments affecting collections.
- Share knowledge and best practices within the team.

Minimum Requirements
Essential Qualification
- Matric / Grade 12 / National Senior Certificate
Preferred Qualification
- Certificate in Credit Management
Minimum Experience
- At least 2 years’ experience in credit collections
