Purpose of the Role
The Cabin Services Assistant Manager supports the Cabin Services Manager in overseeing all cabin crew operations. The role focuses on leadership, recruitment, training, safety compliance, crew scheduling, employee relations, budgeting, and ensuring that cabin crew consistently deliver exceptional customer service while complying with SACAA regulations and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
Cabin Crew Leadership
- Supervise and manage daily cabin crew operations.
- Provide leadership, coaching, mentoring, and performance guidance.
- Monitor employee performance and address operational concerns.
- Maintain high standards of professionalism and customer service.
Recruitment & Selection
- Conduct cabin crew screening and interviews.
- Participate in candidate selection and vetting.
- Assist with onboarding new cabin crew members.
Training & Development
- Update and maintain the Flight Attendant Manual (FAM).
- Develop and improve training programmes.
- Review examination papers and training materials.
- Attend training administration meetings.
- Ensure crew remain compliant with required qualifications.
Operational Administration
- Manage crew licences and ensure validity.
- Prepare operational directives and staff notices.
- Approve leave requests through the ESS system.
- Investigate excessive leave or sick leave abuse.
- Prepare roster fairness reports.
- Assist the Rosters Department with monthly planning.

Safety & Regulatory Compliance
- Ensure compliance with SACAA Cabin Crew regulations.
- Monitor flight and duty limitations.
- Assist with Flight Operations procedures.
- Investigate incidents and occurrences.
- Escalate safety reports where required.
- Monitor fatigue management and safety risks.
- Process cabin crew flight reports.
Financial & Administrative Support
- Assist in preparing and managing the Cabin Crew department budget.
- Monitor departmental expenditure.
- Support implementation of departmental KPIs.
- Prepare reports for senior management.
Employee Relations
- Promote employee wellbeing and morale.
- Conduct regular engagement sessions with crew.
- Address disciplinary matters fairly.
- Issue first-line warnings where necessary.
- Coordinate investigations and disciplinary hearings.
- Represent the company during CCMA matters together with the Employee Relations team.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent qualification.
- A valid Cabin Crew Member Licence.
- At least 7 years of flying experience.
- A minimum of 5 years serving as In-Charge or Senior Cabin Crew.
- Ability to travel between FlySafair operational bases.
- A clear disciplinary record.
- Excellent attendance history.
- Flexibility to work weekends, public holidays, and after-hours when operationally required.
