Minimum Requirements

Applicants must meet the following requirements:

Grade 12 / Senior Certificate.
Computer literate and accurate when capturing information.
Recommendation of nomination as an Independent Correctional Centre Visitor from a community organisation.
The nomination recommendation must not be older than six months.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Public-spirited with a sound understanding of the Batho Pele principles.
Assertive and able to work effectively under pressure.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
A valid driver’s licence will be an added advantage.

Preference will be given to suitably qualified applicants who reside in communities located near the correctional centre where the position is available.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring and handling complaints and other mandatory matters at the correctional centre. Duties will include:

Conducting site visits and reporting urgent matters.
Conducting regular interviews and consultations with inmates and Department of Correctional Services officials.
Attending to complaints and mandatory matters.
Receiving and capturing complaints and requests on the relevant database.
Opening and maintaining case files.
Following up on outstanding complaints.
Preparing and submitting monthly reports.
Providing statistical analysis of complaints received.
Responding to enquiries.
Carrying out reasonable instructions from the supervisor or Regional Manager.

Skills and Competencies

The role requires candidates who are accurate, responsible and comfortable working with confidential information and complaints. Strong communication skills, assertiveness, computer literacy and the ability to work under pressure are important. Candidates should also demonstrate a commitment to public service and understand the principles of Batho Pele.

Knowledge of Batho Pele principles will assist the successful applicant when interacting with inmates, officials, community members and other stakeholders.
