Discovery Health is inviting young South Africans living with disabilities to apply for its Skills Programme Learner – KZN Learnership: People Living with Disabilities (PWD).
The opportunity is based within the Discovery Health KZN Service Team and provides practical workplace experience together with a nationally recognised FETC: Long Term Insurance NQF Level 4 qualification.

About the Learnership
The programme combines structured learning with practical workplace experience in the financial services industry. Learners will gain exposure to Discovery Health’s long-term insurance operations, including client servicing, claims, business initiatives and compliance.
Participants will also receive exposure to call-centre functions involving medical aid client servicing, claims, new business and health benefits administration.
Successful learners will be expected to provide professional and customer-focused service to members and other stakeholders. Duties may include handling queries through telephone and other servicing channels, resolving customer requests, keeping up to date with product changes and using digital servicing tools.
Learners will also be expected to achieve relevant service delivery and performance targets.
Key Responsibilities
Successful candidates may be responsible for:
- Servicing members and key stakeholders through telephone and other channels.

Requirements
Applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Grade 12 is essential.
- Mathematics: Minimum Level 4 (50%).
- English: Minimum Level 4 (50%).
- Mathematics Literacy: Minimum Level 5 (60%).
- Second language: Minimum Level 4 (50%).
- Applicants may have an incomplete tertiary qualification, which will be an advantage.
- Must be between 18 and 25 years old.
- Must be a person living with a disability.
- Must not currently be studying towards a post-Matric tertiary qualification.
- Must not have completed a previous learnership.
- Must not have formal employment experience.
- Between 6 and 12 months of part-time or temporary employment experience may be accepted.
- Must have effective written and verbal English communication skills.
- Basic computer skills are required, particularly MS Excel and MS Outlook.
Skills and Personal Attributes
Discovery is looking for candidates who demonstrate strong problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities. Attention to detail, accuracy and the ability to work systematically are important for the role.
Applicants should also have good time-management and planning skills, be able to prioritise tasks under pressure and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
A strong service orientation, sense of urgency, adaptability and willingness to learn are also important.
