The Gauteng Department of Health has officially opened applications for the 2027 Diploma in Nursing programme at the Gauteng College of Nursing. Eligible South African citizens who reside in Gauteng are invited to apply for this opportunity to pursue a rewarding career in the healthcare sector.

Minimum Entry Requirements

Applicants must:

    • Be currently in Grade 12

National Senior Certificate (NSC)

  • Life Sciences Level 4
  • Mathematics Level 4 or Mathematical Literacy Level 5
  • APS of 27 or higher (Life Orientation counts as half)

National Certificate (Vocational)

  • Minimum 50% in Fundamental Subjects:
    • English First Additional Language
    • Mathematics or Mathematical Literacy
    • Life Orientation
  • Minimum 60% in Vocational Subjects:
    • SA Health Care System
    • Public Health
    • The Human Body and Mind
    • Community Oriented Primary Care

Current Grade 12 learners may apply using their Grade 11 final results, provided they meet the required admission criteria.

Selection Process

Shortlisted candidates will undergo:

  • Psychometric assessment
  • Medical surveillance

Training Requirements

Successful candidates will be required to:

  • Sign a training agreement with the Gauteng Department of Health.
  • Attend lectures and practical training sessions.
  • Participate in compulsory Work Integrated Learning (WIL).
  • Complete clinical placements at Gauteng public hospitals and clinics, including weekend, public holiday and night shifts where required.
