Job Overview
This role involves assisting in the preparation, cooking, and distribution of meals to patients in a hospital environment. You will support the food services team in ensuring safe, hygienic, and timely meal delivery, including special therapeutic diets.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 10–12 (NQF Level 3–5 qualification)
- At least 1 year experience in food preparation or catering
- 1 year experience working in a hospital or healthcare setting (advantage)
- Basic understanding of hygiene, safety, and food handling standards
- Ability to work shifts including nights, weekends, and public holidays
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Physically fit (lifting, standing, moving trolleys)

Key Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare meals according to daily menu plans
- Assist in cooking normal and special (therapeutic) diets
- Serve and distribute food to hospital wards and patients
- Wash dishes, utensils, and maintain kitchen cleanliness
- Clean fridges, storerooms, drains, and kitchen equipment
- Pack food parcels when required
- Operate basic kitchen and food service equipment
- Follow hygiene, safety, and infection control procedures
- Assist in other food service duties as assigned
