Job Overview

This role involves assisting in the preparation, cooking, and distribution of meals to patients in a hospital environment. You will support the food services team in ensuring safe, hygienic, and timely meal delivery, including special therapeutic diets.


Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 10–12 (NQF Level 3–5 qualification)
  • At least 1 year experience in food preparation or catering
  • 1 year experience working in a hospital or healthcare setting (advantage)
  • Basic understanding of hygiene, safety, and food handling standards
  • Ability to work shifts including nights, weekends, and public holidays
  • Good communication and teamwork skills
  • Physically fit (lifting, standing, moving trolleys)


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Prepare meals according to daily menu plans
  • Assist in cooking normal and special (therapeutic) diets
  • Serve and distribute food to hospital wards and patients
  • Wash dishes, utensils, and maintain kitchen cleanliness
  • Clean fridges, storerooms, drains, and kitchen equipment
  • Pack food parcels when required
  • Operate basic kitchen and food service equipment
  • Follow hygiene, safety, and infection control procedures
  • Assist in other food service duties as assigned
