About the Role

As a Histo Typist, you will work alongside specialist pathologists by converting dictated pathology findings into professional medical reports using the Meditech laboratory information system. Accuracy, speed, confidentiality, and attention to detail are essential, as your work directly supports the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

You will also assist with administrative duties within the Histology and Cytology laboratories while ensuring reports are completed within laboratory turnaround times.

Main Responsibilities

• Accurately transcribe pathology dictations.
• Prepare and edit histology and cytology reports.
• Capture patient information correctly.
• Update and maintain laboratory records.
• Edit and verify service request forms.
• Operate the Meditech laboratory information system.
• Maintain confidentiality of patient information.
• Ensure reports meet laboratory quality standards.
• Meet turnaround time (TAT) targets.
• Prioritise urgent and critical pathology cases.
• Provide administrative support to the Histology Department.
• Assist with document management and filing.
• Work closely with pathologists and laboratory staff.
• Contribute to excellent customer service for healthcare providers.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants should have:

• Grade 12 (Matric).
• Typing as a school subject.
• Strong computer literacy.
• Excellent typing accuracy.
• Minimum typing speed of 50 words per minute.
• Ability to read, write and speak English and Afrikaans fluently.
• Basic mathematical skills.
• Ability to maintain strict confidentiality.
