About the Role
The successful candidate will be responsible for transporting, selling, and delivering bread and confectionery products to customers, retail stores, and traders. Drivers will also secure customer orders, manage cash sales, and help grow customer accounts on their assigned routes.
This role reports directly to the Distribution Manager and requires someone who is highly responsible, safety-conscious, and capable of working in a fast-paced FMCG environment.
Minimum Requirements
Educational Requirements
- Grade 12 / Matric
- Valid Code 10 Driver’s License
- Valid PDP (Professional Driving Permit)
Experience Required
- Minimum 2 years FMCG driving experience
- Experience delivering and selling FMCG products
- Cash sales and customer service experience
- Route delivery experience will be advantageous
Skills & Competencies
- Good communication skills in English
- Strong customer service ability
- Good numerical and cash handling skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Strong knowledge of road safety regulations
- Ability to identify sales opportunities
Main Duties and Responsibilities
Vehicle & Safety Management
- Maintain vehicle cleanliness and hygiene standards
- Complete vehicle inspection checklists daily
- Report vehicle faults immediately
- Ensure compliance with road safety and Occupational Health & Safety regulations
- Wear prescribed PPE at all times
- Handle accidents and incidents according to company procedures
Stock Control & Loading
- Verify stock loaded against delivery orders
- Inspect product quality before deliveries
- Assist with loading and unloading when required
- Ensure safe loading practices to avoid road hazards
- Manage crate control and returns
Sales & Customer Service
- Build and maintain strong customer relationships
- Identify new customer opportunities on route
- Increase daily route sales
- Implement company promotions with customers
- Handle customer complaints professionally
- Ensure excellent service delivery at all times
Delivery Responsibilities
- Deliver stock accurately according to customer orders
- Arrange stock replenishment when required
- Collect and return crates daily
- Support emergency deliveries during breakdowns
- Transport products, equipment, and personnel when necessary
Cash Handling & Administration
- Secure company cash and stock
- Complete delivery documentation accurately
- Conduct cash-ups with supervisors
- Detect counterfeit notes and prevent fraud
- Ensure invoices and payments balance correctly
- Submit all paperwork timeously
Team Supervision
- Supervise and guide van assistants
- Ensure assistants follow company standards
- Report performance issues when necessary
- Maintain a professional working relationship with support staff
Working Conditions
Candidates should be willing to:
- Work weekends and public holidays
- Work overtime when required
- Be on standby during driver shortages or emergencies
- Assist in other operational areas when needed
