About the Role
The Clerk: Confirmations plays an important role in ensuring that patients receive the necessary medical aid authorisations before and during their treatment. The successful candidate will communicate with medical schemes, healthcare professionals, patients, and internal departments to ensure all authorisations are obtained promptly, reducing financial risk and preventing claim rejections.
Accuracy, confidentiality, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills are essential for success in this position.
Key Responsibilities
- Obtain initial authorisations and re-authorisations for patient admissions and procedures.
- Liaise with medical aid schemes and funders regarding patient benefits.
- Capture, update, and maintain accurate patient information.
- Verify patient funding and authorisation status.
- Identify financial risk cases and escalate them where necessary.
- Ensure all documentation complies with hospital procedures.
- Apply Level 2 Clinical Coding standards accurately.
- Maintain patient confidentiality at all times.
- Work closely with doctors, nursing staff, case managers, and finance teams.
- Monitor authorisation validity throughout patient admissions.
- Assist in resolving authorisation queries and delays.
- Maintain accurate electronic records using hospital administration systems.
- Ensure compliance with funder contracts and healthcare legislation.
Minimum Requirements
Essential Education
- Grade 12 (Matric) or equivalent.
Preferred Education
- Additional healthcare administration or medical administration training will be advantageous.
Experience
