Job Purpose

The Basic Operator is responsible for carrying out production line operations, cleaning activities, and supporting manufacturing processes to ensure safe production of high-quality products. The role also involves maintaining workplace safety, identifying operational issues, and contributing to continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform equipment start-up and shutdown procedures according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Conduct cleaning and sanitation activities to maintain hygiene standards.
  • Ensure continuous supply of packaging materials to production lines.
  • Monitor product quality and report defects or process abnormalities.
  • Complete shift handovers and maintain accurate production records.
  • Follow all health, safety, and environmental procedures.
  • Identify workplace hazards and report unsafe conditions.
  • Minimise waste and support environmentally responsible operations.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work effectively within a production team.
  • Communicate operational and safety issues to supervisors.
  • Perform physical production duties, including moving materials and operating equipment safely.

Minimum Requirements

Essential Qualifications

  • Grade 12 (National Senior Certificate) with Mathematics and Science or
  • N3 Engineering Qualification.

Experience

  • Previous experience in a Fast-Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) manufacturing environment.

Skills and Competencies

  • Good communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Basic Microsoft Office skills (Word and Excel preferred).
  • Ability to work in a team.
  • Agile mindset.
  • Good record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to identify production and quality issues.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety.

Additional Requirements

  • Must be willing to work rotating shifts.
  • Must be available during factory shutdowns and training periods.
  • Must be willing to assist in other production areas when required.
  • Must be physically fit to perform production-related duties.
