Old Mutual is inviting applications for Investigators to join its Claims team in Johannesburg. This permanent, full-time opportunity is ideal for candidates with insurance, claims, or investigation experience who can identify fraudulent claims, conduct detailed investigations, and protect the company from unnecessary financial losses while delivering excellent customer service.

As an Investigator, you will verify claim information, interview claimants and witnesses, liaise with the South African Police Service (SAPS), visit accident scenes, compile investigation reports, and ensure claims are processed fairly and accurately.

Purpose of the Role

The successful candidate will provide professional investigation services that support the claims department by validating information, detecting fraud, reducing claims costs, and ensuring that legitimate claims are settled efficiently.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct primary validation of insurance claims.
  • Verify previous insurance history.
  • Interview claimants, witnesses, brokers, and other relevant parties.
  • Liaise with SAPS and obtain police information where necessary.
  • Retrieve and review recorded claims, sales, and customer service calls.
  • Request transcription of recorded conversations when required.
  • Submit prejudice requests and attach supporting documentation.
  • Obtain accident reports, settlement letters, and vehicle registration documents.
  • Visit accident scenes to investigate claim circumstances.
  • Gather, analyse, and evaluate evidence.
  • Prepare detailed investigation reports.
  • Present findings to management and relevant forums.
  • Identify and prevent fraudulent or invalid insurance claims.
  • Determine liability based on available evidence.
  • Coordinate vehicle towing to approved panel beaters or Auction Nation.
  • Ensure vehicle assessors are appointed promptly.
  • Arrange approved repair and service providers where necessary.
  • Maintain accurate customer policy and claims records.
  • Provide professional claims advice to customers.

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Relevant Certificate in Insurance or Investigation.
  • NQF Level 5 Higher, Advanced or Occupational Certificate (or equivalent).
  • Valid driver’s licence is advantageous due to field investigations.
